Thiba Palace
Thiba Palace, also known as Thibaw Palace, is a historical building located on a small hillock in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. It was built by the British in 1910 for King Thibaw of Myanmar (Burma), who was exiled to India after being dethroned by the British in 1885. The palace served as the residence of the king and his family until his death in 1916.
The palace is an architectural marvel with beautiful carvings, semi-circular wooden windows, and a dancing hall with a marble floor on the first floor. There is also a Buddha idol installed at the back side of the palace, brought to India by King Thibaw. The palace is currently maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and is under renovation.
Visitors can explore the palace, which houses a museum displaying various artifacts used by the king during his exile. The palace offers a mesmerizing view of Someshwar Creek, Bhatye Bridge, and the Arabian Sea from Thiba Point, a popular viewpoint near the palace.
