The temple is made entirely of laterite, surkki, and other traditional materials, with no trace of cement concrete.
The presiding deity of the temple is Bhagavathy, and it is believed that Kodungallur Bhagavathy resides in the east gopuram of this temple. The temple is known for its rich cultural heritage and hosts several important festivals such as Navarathri, Thrikkarthika, Deepavali, and Aarattupuzha Pooram.
