Vairagad Fort
Vairagad Fort is a small historic fort located in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, India, at the confluence of the Khobragadhi and Satnalas rivers. The adjacent village of the same name adds to its local charm. Vairagad is believed to have been established in the Dvapara Yuga by a king named Vairacan and was ruled by the Mana chiefs before falling to the Gond rulers in the 9th century.
The fort once had diamond mines mentioned in historical records like the Ain-i-Akbari. It features three entrance gates, a deep river moat, several wells, and ruins including an old stepwell. Near the fort are a tomb of the Gond prince Durga Sah and a grave believed to be of a British commandant's daughter from the early 19th century. The Archaeological Department is currently working on reconstructing the main entrance, and the fort is open to the public as a protected monument.
