Yeola Fort
Yeola Fort, also known as Ankai Fort, is a historic hill fort located in Yeola Taluka of Nashik district, Maharashtra. Built around 1,000 years ago by the Yadava dynasty of Devagiri, it is part of the Satmala Range and stands approximately 966 meters (3,170 feet) above sea level.
The fort is actually a twin with Tankai Fort, with a common fortification connecting both on adjacent hills. It was strategically important for overseeing the Surat-Aurangabad highway historically.
The fort encompasses ancient Jain caves with well-preserved idols and carvings, several bastions, water tanks, and gates, reflecting its rich heritage. The fort changed hands over centuries, from the Mughals under Shah Jahan to the Marathas and later the British, who captured it peacefully in 1818. Today, it remains a notable archaeological and trekking site offering panoramic views and cultural insights near the town of Manmad.
