Named after India's former president, Zakir Husain, the garden was established in 1967 under the guidance of Mohinder Singh Randhawa, Chandigarh's first chief commissioner. It is renowned for being Asia's largest rose garden, boasting over 50,000 rose bushes of 1,600 different species.

The garden is not only home to a vast variety of roses but also features trees of medicinal value, such as bel, bahera, harar, camphor, and yellow gulmohar. The garden's layout includes carved-out lawns and flower beds, creating a picturesque and serene environment for visitors.
