Historical Landmark
Zero Mile Stone Nagpur
Zero Mile Stone in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is a historical monument built by the British during the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India in 1907. It marks the geographical center of colonial India and was used as a reference point for measuring distances across the country.
The monument consists of a sandstone pillar, a smaller stone representing the GTS Standard Bench Mark, and four stucco horses that were added later. The height of the pillar is 310.948 meters above mean sea level.
Although Nagpur was considered the geographical center of India during British rule, post-partition, Karaundi village in Madhya Pradesh claims this distinction.
