Latehar district covers an area of approximately 3,703 square kilometers. It is surrounded by the districts of Palamu in the north, Lohardaga in the east, and Garhwa in the west. The southern part of the district is bordered by the state of Chhattisgarh.
Latehar district is divided into six administrative blocks, namely Latehar, Chandwa, Balumath, Manika, Barwadih, and Mahuadanr. The district headquarters is located in Latehar town.
