The Haleshwar Temple is an 18th-century Hindu temple located about 10 kilometers north of Tezpur in the Sonitpur district of Assam. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, making it unique as a place of worship for both Vaishnavites and Shaivites.
According to local mythology, a farmer named Halowa discovered a linga while plowing his field, which led to the establishment of the temple. The temple was initially built on this linga and later reconstructed by King Rudra Singha of the Ahom dynasty in 1705 AD. The temple is built in the Nilachal architectural style and is one of the oldest temples in the region.
