Fort
Kurdugad
Kurdugad Fort, also known as Vishramgad, is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, about 143 km from Mumbai and 113 km from Pune. The fort was strategically important as it watched over the trade route between Pune and the coastal ports.
It was constructed during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with the help of his Sardar Baji Pasalkar. Later controlled by the Peshwas, Kurdugad lost importance during British rule but was revitalized by Dattoba Pasalkar, a descendant of Baji Pasalkar.
At the base of the fort are temples dedicated to the local goddess Krudai Devi and the Kurdeshwar Mahadev temple. The fort is surrounded by thick forests and steep slopes, featuring a bastion known as Hanuman Buruj named after a large nearby statue of Hanuman. Today, Kurdugad Fort is largely in ruins but remains a place of historical significance and natural beauty.
