The Lalpeth Monoliths in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, are a fascinating group of sixteen colossal Hindu statues. These monoliths were part of an ambitious plan to build a massive Hindu temple complex, but the temple was never completed.
The statues include two versions of Ganesha, two versions of the Ganga goddess, two versions of Mahadeva (Shiva), two versions of Hanuman, one Annapurna goddess, one Kali goddess, one Kurma (Vishnu), one Matsya (Vishnu), one Bhima (from the Mahabharata), one Rawana (incomplete Ramayana legend), one Nandi, and one Sesha.
The site is now located amidst the city and an industrial complex, and some of the monoliths are damaged or show signs of being dragged. Despite this, they remain an important cultural heritage site and a testament to the region's rich history.
