Lingana, also known as Lingana Fort, is a majestic pinnacle located in the Sahyadri range between Raigad and Torna. Standing at an impressive height of 2,969 feet, Lingana is renowned for its challenging and thrilling climb, making it a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts and experienced trekkers.
The fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1648 to safeguard the central Konkan region against the Sidis. Over time, it was used as a penal settlement, with prisoners confined to rock dungeons. The trek to Lingana involves technical climbing and rappelling, making it one of the most demanding yet rewarding treks in the Sahyadri range. The climb combines about 1000 feet of climbing, 700 feet of rappelling, and trekking through dense forests and steep ravines.
The best time to visit Lingana is during the cooler months, from November to February, when the weather is more favorable for such challenging activities. The summit offers stunning panoramic views of Raigad, Torna, and the surrounding landscapes.
