Mrugagad Fort, also referred to as Bhelivcha Killa, is a fascinating hill fort located in Sudhagad Taluka of Raigad district, Maharashtra. Situated near Bheliv village, this fort sits at an elevation of approximately 1750 feet (533 meters) above sea level, making it an alluring trekking destination.
Historically, Mrugagad served as a natural watchtower due to its strategic location and natural fortifications. The fort’s structure is rudimentary with rock-cut steps leading to the top, and the trek offers a thrilling adventure through dense forests and scenic landscapes. The climb is relatively short, taking around an hour and a half to reach the summit from the base village.
The fort provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Western Ghats and nearby landmarks such as Umberkhind, which played a significant role in the battle between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and General Kartalab Khan.
