Shri Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Wildlife Reserve, also known as the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, is located in the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Ranges) in the Raigad, Pune, and Thane districts of Maharashtra.
The sanctuary covers an area of approximately 131 square kilometers. It is home to the Shri Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India, making it a significant pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Shiva.
Renowned for its rich biodiversity, the sanctuary is a haven for various flora and fauna, including the Indian Giant Squirrel (Shekru), which is also the state animal of Maharashtra. The sanctuary boasts a diverse range of species, unlike Leopard, Sambar, Barking Deer, and numerous birds, reptiles, and insects.
